In light of the allegations against Faza, a majority of profits of Project: Eden's Garden charms and pins sold on this site will be donated to End the Backlog until I run out of stock. This page will be updated with proof of donation on the 5th of every month.
Amount donated was determined after calculating how much each individual product contributes to the cost of production, tariffs, packing materials, site fees, and any other costs involved in the merch process, then rounded to the closest whole number.
This equates to...
$7 donated for each $11 charm.
$2 donated for each $3.50 large pin.
$1 donated for each $2.20 small pin.
Why End the Backlog?
This initiative pushes US state governments to test the large backlog of rape kits that often go untested for years, if at all. By testing these kits, serial offenders can be identified and force sexual assault cases to be brought to justice, giving more power to survivors and preventing serial offenders from further offenses.
I spent a lot of time researching different charities that benefitted survivors. Ideally, I wanted to choose an international fund that covered Indonesia, but most charities that had enough accessible english information and a way that I could donate with my bank/USD were either not transparent enough on their work in Indonesia or I found personal stories from survivors feeling that the funded services were entirely unhelpful.
End the Backlog has a very clear practical initiative and results that make me confident that our money is going towards something productive for survivors.
Why a "majority" of profits and not all?
The cost of production and shop maintenance is inconsistent. I have no realistic way of perfectly calculating the exact value I receive from each charm.
- Different orders of the same identical charms cost different amounts due to discounts when ordering in bulk as well as unpredictable tariffs.
- I do not purchase the same materials for shipping every time, resulting in different costs.
- The amount each individual charm contributes to paying for site or card fees depends on how much I sell in total.
There's no possible way for me to guarantee a perfect 100%, but the amounts I've set are a profit majority that I feel is reasonably close to the average.
Are profits from Etsy donated?
Unfortunately no. Etsy has much stricter guidelines around donations that I cannot confirm I meet to provide the necessary information and I cannot risk my shop taken down.
If you buy from Etsy and leave an order note to donate the value of your order, I will do so.
Why still list on Etsy?
It's where I get the most attention and I believe I have a higher chance of recieving sales here if I keep up the listings there in low stock. Redirects from Etsy are a main way this shop gets attention.
There are also some countries/currencies that also do not work with this shop but do work with Etsy. I want to provide the option described above for those in that situation.
I'm not comfortable with the amounts/Etsy issue/selling any PJ:EG products/etc.
I get it. I encourage you to donate directly if any of this does not sit right with you. After researching and calculating, I chose what I felt was best and safest to use my merch to contribute as much as I possibly can.
